Signs...

Jean Marie - When a sign is a sign that you need a new sign.

Jules - Ditto. :) Sign still unrepaired from devastating tornado that blew through about 4 years ago.

Jean - Loneliness. This beautiful yellow flower stands strong beside its fallen friend. It makes me sad.

Jules - Me trespassing again, this time wanting a shot of these sweet curtains framed by the white crusty window against the grey rock.

Free Style

Jean - Taken in a hospital parking garage, the first thing I noticed when I drove in was this pristine, shiny bike illuminated by the garage’s yellow lights. Creeping to take a closer look I had to smile. The protective stop sign in the background threatened curious onlookers with an unspoken “Don’t even think about it”.

Jules - I took a photo of this sign because the place had gone out of business. I guess the good life wasn't so good. :)

Texture

Jean - Hurricane season makes us down south do some crazy things. In this case, the heavy chain that my husband anchored down his trailer with is still wrapped “for dear life” around our large oak tree. I love how time has aged the chain and its look against the heaviness and texture of the oak’s bark.

Jules - The shingle on the cover to an old wooden swing that sits in my yard. I love how nature has decorated it. :)

Soft

Jean - It’s a bush, with fluffy white stuff.

Jules - Mine is a feather on a bed. No, seriously. :)

Dusk

Jean - On a recent family excursion, this sunset gave the illusion we were spiraling towards a destination of orange fiery hell. Combining that with the 6 hour long trip (that should have taken 3) and the chaotic meltdowns of the 2 year old in the backseat, I would have to say we were forewarned.

Jules - Mine actually is the picture FROM hell. I missed the perfect sunset last evening so I went tonight to recapture only to run out of battery midway through not to mention there WAS NO SUNSET. I get home and only have one good shot which I have been trying to upload to blogger for the last HOUR, only to have it be viewed sideways. Finally, here it is. This is a photo of Christmas lights up the drive leading to our local hospital. Yeah, they're still up, but so? Last year I didn't take my tree down til Easter. :)

Strange

Jean - At first glance my photo doesn’t seem out of the ordinary. It appears to be a middle eastern man walking away, towards hills of sand and dry brush. The reality is the photo wasn’t taken anywhere near here, but rather leaving Houston, Texas off Interstate 10. This young man was walking along the service road in front of a concrete plant.

Jules - A sign as seen in the prison garden behind the county jail. Combined with Jean's picture, I find it sort of ironic, especially being the two weren't planned beyond having a "strange" topic. :)

Freestyle

Jean -Don’t be alarmed, a spacecraft has not landed! But, a gazillion dollar high tech facility in my hometown has. This oddly shaped building homes a world class interactive 3D theatre, which in the evening glows in varying shades of pastels. Who could not take a picture?

Jules - A lovely rusted water tank from a small country town. Hope the water tastes better than this looks.

Weekends are always freestyle...

Jean - This photo was taken from the backside of University of Louisiana’s LITE building and perhaps my favorite so far. If I had to theme it, I would call it “authentic”, because the entire photo looks computer generated to me, but is not. It is completely untouched, except for cropping. I love the texture of the long thin grass against the flatness of the building. The beams reflecting the color of the grass are actually not beams at all, but pieces of shiny strips of metal adhered to the natural wood wall. Even the shadows look manipulated to me.

Jules - This is a perpetually parked car on a vacant lot. I drive by it everyday on my way home. The color is what catches my eye. I wanted to get a better photo but I was trespassing as it was so I settled.

Ugly

Jean -We all know when tax season arrives. This building is open strictly during tax season and is a bleak reminder not to procrastinate. Even uglier, is the human, seen during the day, dressed in Statue of Liberty garb who shakes her torch at you when you stop at the red light.

Jules - This is a photo of a liquor store sign from a town I spent most of my youth in. On this particular corner, during the 70s and 80s, there were 2 drive-in liquor stores. Sort of an oxymoron to some degree. :) The store no longer exists but the sign remains. Perhaps as a testament to man's evolution and past stupidity.

Old

Jean -This university owned building sits among those used for Horticulture.
Don’t let its old looks fool you, the building is still used today, but for storage.

Jules - mine is a photo of an old necklace chain that was attached to a locket my mother gave me. The ring is a vintage Sarah Coventry, my great grandmother's. It was her birthstone.

Red

Jean - This barn is part of 100 acre University property purchased in 1920. The old red barn and rolling hills sits wedged between commercial strip malls, an apartment complex and the main thoroughfare….the contrast drew me in to take a photo. A land swap has this last chunk of beautiful undeveloped property destined for commercial use and had me seeing red in more than one way.

Jules - Mine is a photo of a glimpse of our town mural. It depicts such special places as the courthouse gazebo, where all the townfolk can get married by the local Justice of the Peace (comes in real handy for shotgun weddings); the 4th of July picnic, the biggest yearly event in town with carnival rides and games, beauty pageants, bingo, local music, lemonade, funnel cakes, and the raffling of a truck; and a few more significant town landmarks.
